As for many artists, the art of Jane Whiston has been evolving throughout her life. Having graduated from Sydney College of the Arts with Honours in 2006, Jane has recently been exploring the use of diluted and undiluted acrylic paints when combined with various water and oil based varnishes. A level of control is exercised over the choice of colours and the media used, whether applied to a primed or an unprimed canvas, but the manner in which they all interact will depend upon the intrinsic nature of the materials as they dry. The artist surrenders to a result over which she has little control, producing a fresh and harmonious artwork that suggests a level of spontaneity and freedom and which allows the viewer the liberty to seek his or her own appeal. Some canvasses however, evoke an image that Jane will then further develop into a more representational style of artwork, resulting in some large and vivid objects that complement the underlying finish.
Colour breaths from the canvas with an enveloping effect.
